Develop a personal relationship with God - and find peace amid the crisis
EFFECTIVE MEANS AGAINST THE FEAR OF CORONA:
DEVELOP A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
By Lars Hyldgård
In the media, almost daily, the authorities are now bringing good and reasonable instructions on how to look after each other and avoid unnecessary spread of infection of the coronavirus. Everyone’s focus is on the horror scenarios of the experts and instructions and injunctions from politicians in the common fight against covid-19.
With the media’s constant focus on the infection, however, another problem arises – that fear, and even panic, is spreading and affecting many people right now. And this in such a way, that psychologists are now giving advice such as:
“Turn down the news stream. Keep updated but put a reasonable limit on your media viewing.”
Or, as the American professor in psychology, Jelena Kecmanovic says on "Videnskab.dk" (name of danish science magazine/ website):
“The constant media coverage adds to the feeling of danger, which increases our worries and furtherly escalates the perceived risk. To decrease the anxiety, I recommend that you limit your exposure to the news about the coronavirus to 30 minutes per day.”
It helps to change the focus and begin to seek God
Oftentimes a crisis is necessary for people to really begin seeking God. But there is good news for those that seek God amid a crisis, because God is available for people that desperately seek Him. There are millions of persuading examples of this. One of my friends told me that he had found faith in God in relation to an economic crisis: “The door to God’s kingdom is all the way down at the ground” – meaning that you need to crawl in, because it takes humility to get to God.
In the above-mentioned article from Videnskab.dk, professor Jelena Kecmanovic writes about changing one’s focus:
“Try to remember the purpose of life and all that, which gives meaning to life. It can be spirituality, relationships or a matter close to one’s heart. Begin something important that, perhaps, you have postponed for years, and take responsibility for how you live your life. Focus on or begin to explore the different questions of life. It can be a big help for you on the way in handling unavoidable anxiety.”
When a scientist writes this on Videnskab.dk, it’s because there is evidence that spirituality, for instance, can help people in relation to anxiety. It is something that I personally have experienced in a very notable way – which I describe in another article on the YestoJesus.net, that you can read here.
In a convincing way, the Christian faith shows to reliable compared to other religious beliefs. Because there are, in fact, millions of people, that can concordantly testify to their personal and life transforming experiences by the presence of God and help in crisis. The evidence (found through people’s personal experiences) is easy to find if you search for them on the internet. We give a small excerpt of examples on our website – in the “Experiences w. God” and “Videos/ explanations” sections.
