Why pray to God ?By Lars Hyldgård
Here are five good reasons 1) In the Christian faith, prayer is like breathing. 2) Prayer puts us in a personal connection with God, who has the power to change things! 3) God wants us to pray to and worship Him, so that through this, we may understand how dependent we are of Him. Prayer helps us to come into a right relationship with God. 4) God listens to prayer, which, in time, we can come to experience. But prayer also means to just have fellowship with Him, and to give Him more space in our lives. 5) Through personal faith in Jesus Christ, we have now become children of God, and therefore have access to the blessings of God. Jesus said: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. My grandparents had a special sign hanging in their office. It was engraved with these words: “The family that prays together, stays together!” And my grandparents were indeed an example of a married couple that prayed together, and who gathered the whole family in an atmosphere of true love. Every day, they would pray together for the whole family. I’ve experienced many answers to prayer in my life. It became stronger than ever after I had given my life fully to Jesus. In the Book of Psalms, which is a strong book of prayer in the Bible, it says: Commit your way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. (Psalm 37:5) Committing one’s way to the Lord is something that you do out of your own free will. I told Jesus that He could lead me in all things, and that I would choose His path, rather than my own. Suddenly I started to experience God’s presence in a way, that was stronger than I had thought was possible. It is the best thing, that has happened in my life. In that way, suddenly, I received answers to a whole lot of questions, that I had never specifically asked before. For instance, I pray that God will fill me with His love for people. I ask Him to mold me into the person, that I was created to be. I ask Him to lead me. And I pray for my own needs, and the needs of others. I thank Him for all the good things he gives me. I experience how, again and again, He sets me free on the inside as an answer to prayer. There are many things to learn about prayer. Prayer is birthed from our relationship with God, and how well we know Him. The Bible shows us both who God is, and who we are. It inspires us and gives us a lot of understanding about the amazing opportunities that prayer gives. For instance, Jesus taught us the Lord’s prayer, which can be used as an inspiration to how you can freely pray from the heart. It can also be an incredibly powerful experience to pray together with other sincere Christians. But the best way to learn how to pray – is praying! REMEMBER: Always be honest with God. You might as well begin now – prayer is “learning by doing.” |
